Wireless Security Cameras – How to Get One That Fits Your Need

Wireless Security Cameras – Define Your Needs First

Surveillance or security cameras have become increasingly popular in the recent times. All offices, large stores, gated communities and even households have these cameras installed. The wireless security cameras are extremely useful and have become very much accessible to the common man. These are basically closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras which use wireless technology to receive and transmit audio and video signals over radio frequency to a wireless receiver.  The biggest advantage of these cameras is precisely as their name suggests, that they are wireless.  Most of them use battery power and hence run completely on wireless technology.

Types of Wireless Security Cameras

Wireless security cameras are primarily of two types: Analog and Digital Wireless cameras

Analog Wireless Security Cameras:

These cameras transmit audio and video signals by the means of radio frequencies. Their transmission range is almost about 300 feet or about 90 meters in open spaces; however obstructions like furniture or walls are known to reduce this range effectively. Most of the analog wireless security cameras function on a frequency of 2.4GHz and are infact the less expensive options in surveillance cameras as the cost of the individual cameras are low.

Digital Wireless Security Cameras:

Digital wireless security cameras on the other hand, encode the audio and video signals in the form of digital packets and transmit them over higher radio frequencies over a high bandwidth network. In open spaces their range is up to 450 feet. These cameras are especially popular because of the high quality of audio and video signals that they can record, as well as the two way communication between the camera and receiver that these cameras allow for. Moreover with the digital cameras multiple receivers can be connected to one recording device, so that the video and audio footage can be accessed from multiple platforms on the same network.

Advantages of Wireless Security Cameras:

Wireless security cameras score much higher over their wired counterparts because of the numerous advantages that they have, the most obvious one being the precise fact that they are wireless. As a result of which there is no need to run expensive video cables all the way from the camera to the receiver, since signals are transmitted by the means of radio frequencies. Moreover the installation processes of these cameras are also very simple since mounting them does not require an elaborate set up.

This further reduces the cost because it removes the expenses involved in buying additional tools and accessories. Moreover the fact that they are wireless makes them very flexible and easy to move from one place to another without having to worry about the presence of a power outlet. It is easy to pre-program the wireless security cameras with a wide range of settings, and also pre determine the zoom etc, so that you can record exactly what you want and in whatever direction you need it to be.

However keep in mind that these wireless security cameras require high bandwidths to operate on so make sure your network connectivity is strong. Moreover the signals transmitted by them can be interrupted due to interference from other household devices that operate on radio frequency such as radios, microwaves, routers, cordless phones etc.
